COSMETICS can do everything for you, or nothing at all. It all depends on what you choose and how you use it.
Every now and again assess your looks; try not to get stuck in a make-up rut.
Never worry about having an unusual face shape or features that don’t appear to conform, cheeks that are too chubby, eyes that are too small, a long nose or a double chin. Only you are probably aware of them, other people never really notice your “bad” points, so forget about trying to over-correct them. Who wants to spend half a day keeping the corrections in good repair anyway?
Play up all your good features and forget about trying to do too much about the bad ones. Complicated contouring and face shaping only really works in the hands of experts. We’ve all seen people in the street with brown streaks down their cheeks or on the nose, where they’ve unsuccessfully tried to “shade away” their faults. Make up your mind to make the best of what you already have that you like, and improve on what you don’t.
No amount of make-up is going to cover up a skin which isn’t well cared for, so that should be your first priority. Before you begin any make-up, remember these golden rules:
Never forget to moisturize before make-up. Blend the moisturizer all over your face and throat. Use it sparingly; too much will only evaporate and make your skin drier.
In summer, follow the moisturizer with a sun screen, before you begin your make-up.
For highly colored skins there are Special under make-up moisturizers in aqua or green which will counteract the pinkness in your skin. They are very subtle and, if applied carefully, in a clear light they won’t show.
LIGHT
There is one single factor that makes all the difference between a good make-up and a bad one — the light you do your make-up by.
It’s no use going into a half-lit bathroom, or a room that makes you look good because it’s dimly lit, to do your make-up. Always apply make-up in the light you’re going to be seen by.
A good light, whether daylight or artificial, should be directed straight on to your face. Put your mirror in front of a window or a bright light and then you’re ready to apply your foundation.
