Don’t use ice to numb the eyebrow area when tweezing.

When you’ve bought the best shimmering shadow for night and you don’t want to go overboard on the lipstick, try this: Mix a little of the shadow with a clear balm and apply sparingly over your usual neutral lip shade That way, your lips will shimmer just like your eyes!

My coolest trick is to apply a light coat of red lipstick ALL around the eye as it works great as a concealer to cover undereye circles and you can also duplicate the look for fall by Fred Farrugia in his Lancome Rouge collection.The red used must be a true red for better results.To stop creasing at the end of the day..pat on some translucent powder to set and lots of glitter and you now have the latest look!

Put a small spot of gold eyeshadow over your pupil right at the lash line, once you’re done putting on the rest of your eyeshadow. It will be unnoticeable, but draw attention to your eyes, and make them look brighter.

Take broken eye shadow colors and mix colors to the shades you want.

Use a light colored highlight shadow underneath your eyebrow to hide away eyebrow stubbles,  and to have a clean look.

If you like creamy eyeshadow but don’t have any, just take clear lipstick or lip balm and add it to the shade you like most and apply to your eyelids.

If you burn a cork (it is the cover that they use for wine bottles, they use cork screws to get it out) you can use it as eye liner. The burning of the cork causes it to become black, and if you put it on like eyeliner it looks great!

I am always mixing eyeshadows together. I love getting my own personal look. I use alot of gold eyeshadow with all different kinds of colours. Love it.

Put on Brown Mascara and tip it in Black to make your lashes look longer.

Run eyelash curler under hot water before using for 10 seconds. Gives a great curl.

When I run out of lipstick or lip gloss, I grab some chap stick, and put it on. Then, I find one of my favorite shades or eyeshadow and place some over my lips. The color stays on great and looks fabulous!

Ever wanted to liven up a dull lipstick job? Just take your concealer stick and apply on the inner bottom and inner top of your lips to make a frosty look..best match a brown tone.

I take and crumble any iridescent eye shadow and add a little Vaseline. It makes a cool shimmery lipgloss!

When you find your favorite lipstick mush because you left it in your 100 degree plus car all afternoon, don’t despair. You will be able to save some of it. Put the lipstick in the freezer for a few hours. You will be able to reshape with your fingers after it has harden.

If a lipstick breaks, put the broken part into a small container (like the container a sample of cream came in), then heat the container in the microwave. The lipstick will melt into the container, then it will harden again, and you will still be able to use your broken lipstick.

If you can’t get the perfect lipstick, use eyeshadow. Apply a coat of semi-gloss lip gloss and then brush your favorite colour of eyeshadow on top. Make sure the lip gloss has moisturizers. This is great for achieving a nice natural tone.

When I wear lipstick my lips dry out so I put on lip gloss then lipstick.

Well, tons of times I have all these free lipsticks I get from the Clinique counter and stuff like that. And they are always such bright, ugly red colors. So, what I do is I take my black eyeliner and line my lips with it after applying the red and it deepens the color to beautiful burgundys and other deep reds. I use this trick all the time, especially in the fall and winter time when the dark colors look great!

If I want my lipstick to last longer on my lips, I apply the color….dust my lips lightly with loose powder…reapply the color, then blot with a tissue.

Use Eyeliner to matte your glossy lipstick. 

When trying to make your lipstick to stay on longer you should apply a first coat of lipstick…blot your lips and apply your lipstick again.

What’s New for Fall 2012:

1. Matte Skin
For fall skin has taken a more matte finish but is still natural in look. Dewy, shiny, glowy skin is fading out, and to achieve the new matte look, just apply your liquid foundation as usual, with a soft dusting of powder on top. Loose Powder is perfect for this and gives just the right look of touchable matte skin. Or touch on a shine mattifier on the t-zone on top of foundation or on bare skin. The look is matter skin that’s natural looking, but not packed on with
foundation or caked with powder.

2. Softer Blush
Blush is slowly fading out…you’ll see less bright shades, with more of a realism in color than ever before. Strong flushed cheeks are becoming softer, with tones in soft rose and beiges being the perfect cheek tones for fall. There’s also a new placement, with blush being applied as a very natural flush on the tops of the cheeks as opposed to the apples of the cheeks. Just start application at the tops of the cheekbones and work towards the apple. Another new way of blush is a return to the 70′s “c” look. Take your blush and apply on the tops of cheekbones and then up
towards the temple, doing a half circle around your eye.

3. Dark Dark Eyes
Yes, smoky eyes are still in and it’s all about black. Rim inside and outside the eyelashes with black pencil and you’re set. Try this look for both day and night in different variations. For day, add a light gray eye shadow smudged on the whole eyelid for a softer version. For night, go with a warmer brown or sandstone color. The new eyeshape? Emphasizing the crease has given way to shadowing the entire eyelid with a medium shade. Smudge the shadow into the eyeliner on both top and bottom and bring out to emphasize a rounder shape on the eyes. No winging out and no frosty highlighter on the browbone will keep this look new.

4. Nude Lips
Nude, coffee and sand colored lips. Nude lips are back and more modern with a soft matte finish. And matte doesn’t have to mean dry lips. To keep lipstick on longer, apply a soft touch of lip balm or chap stick first and then your lipstick. Use a cream lipstick and blot down to a matte finish. Also, the lip line is cleaner, but not perfectly drawn on.

5. Lip Gloss is Fading Away
Glossy lips have all but disappeared, making way for the newer matte textures in lipstick. Update your clear gloss by using a touch instead on the brow bone and even on the eyebrows. Pair up with a nude lipstick and soft pinks on the cheeks for a great new natural daytime look.

6. Glitter and Frost
This season, it’s all about matte textures and perfect skin. So unless you’re a rock star, keep the glitter and frosted eyeshadows and lipsticks at home.

Some folks have reported a reduction in age spots with our emu oil products. We had one customer tell us she had moles removed from her face and immediately began putting pure emu oil on the wound. When she went back to the Dr. for her check-up, he could not believe how well healed her incisions were. Likewise, this customer reported no scarring appeared on her face after it was completely healed.

Since Emu oil is a tissue nutrient, it can also be used to help feed the skin when damaged – such as for burns, insect bites, scratches, cuts, etc. Always, always be sure to clean any wounds well with an anti-bacterial product.

If you blush looks good before anything other color makeup is applied, you have the right amount on.

The hardest thing to applying blush is getting the right amount on. Time is wasted in taking off, erasing, or putting more blush on. And if your blush is going on streaky,it’s never the product’s fault. It’s usually in the type of application that is being used.

Guidelines:  The only area that you can apply blush is from (going from the top down): at the arch of the eyebrow, around the temple, to the middle of the eye. Anywhere within this guideline works for blush.

Remember: Blush can really only go so far………some more guidelines to apply blush is:

• not beyond the arch of the eyebrow when going around your temple (it’ll make you look like you have a dirty forehead) If applied past these 3 guidelines, blush just looks ‘off’.
• not pass the middle of the eye – towards your nose (you’ll look sunburned, unless that’s the look you’re going for)
• not below the bottom of the nose (you’ll look cold)

Here are some more applications you can use to achieve different effects with blush. Think of blush as a way to highlight or bring attention to different features of the face. Here are some tricks you can do to help ‘emphasize’ a specific feature:

1. To emphasize bone structure……….

• Apply blush or contour underneath the cheekbone. Not sure where this is? Try the ’2 finger’ technique.

With your first two fingers, (forefinger and index) line your forefinger above your ear, the index finger below your ear (if you cross your hand across your face……it’ll be easier!). Make sure the bottom finger is lined horizontally across the face……………..By applying your contour between the two fingers, you’ll always get it underneath the cheekbone.

Want stronger cheekbones? After applying underneath the cheekbone, apply some more just in the temple. Keep the top of the cheekbone blush-free. This illusion of depth, highlight and then depth again will make the cheekbone stronger. The illusion? By applying blush underneath the cheekbones, you make your face appear wider, and you create more attention to your hair. You’re actually drawing a line that leads the eye directly to your hairstyle. Great for emphasizing an evening look, or for a bridal look.

This also works when applying blush on the apples of the cheeks and then applying the color strongly back towards the ear. You’ll still get the same ‘optical illusion’ line effect. Just note, you’ll also be emphasizing your nose. (The line goes both ways.)

2. To help make skin look clearer and emphasize your lipstick.

Smile! And apply on the apples of your cheeks. Blend back, but don’t go any
further than the outside corner of the eye, or the actual apple of the cheek. By just keeping color on the front of the cheeks, you give the illusion of clearer skin, and you will also emphasize your eyes.

3. Why make your eyes stand out?

Every magazine editor will tell you that if they can get you to “look” at a
cover at the model’s eyes, you’ll pretty much buy it. Why? Eye contact is a very powerful tool.

4. Here’s a great optical illusion.

Apply your blush starting near the outside corner of the eye, then go up to the temple, and then up on the forehead, as far as the arch of the eyebrow. You’re almost drawing a letter “C” around your eye. What this does is give the illusion of a half circle. What our eye tries to do is complete the circle by continuing around your eye to be exact. You create a stronger focus on the eye, and more eye contact.

Types of blush:

The type of blush used offers it’s own techniques and pros and cons. Here are tips and tricks when applying.

Powder Blush: ( shown: Mac )

Powder form, either loose or pressed. The shade on looks about 2-3 shades lighter than you see in the pan. Loose powder looks more intense on than you think it will

Application Tool: Blush Brush

Use a blush brush that fits the size of the apple of your cheek when you smile. You’ll get the right amount every time without the color going too far down on the face. Sable is the best for the softest feel, or a mixed hair brush. Make sure the bristles are cut round for a softer application. If the bristles are cut straight across, the blush is more likely to streak.

Techniques: Power blush is all in the technique.

Do you have a hole in the middle of you pressed blush? You’re wasting too much product, and you’re probably toning down your blush after you’ve put it on. Or maybe the color is just not going on enough.

Quick Trick: When buying a colored powder, rub some on the tip of your finger. Then lightly rub it off. Does it disappear instantly? Then the color is not going to last very long on, or you’ll have a hard time getting color to go on. It’ll fade in about 2-3 hours. Does it leave a slight stain? It’s staying power is about 4-5 hours. Does it have a silky touch? It’ll last the longest, since the oils (mineral or otherwise) is what keeps the product on longer, adhering to the skin better.

Is your blush streaking when you apply it? It’s not the product, it’s the application. Sounds like you’re running the blush brush across the blush, and then running the brush across your face. This way picks up bout 10x more blush than you need, and running the brush across your cheeks causes the streaking effect. An easier way to apply blush, and not go through it so fast, is to tap the brush on the blush about 3-4 times. Really, that’s all you need. Shake off any excess if needed. Then apply the blush by tapping the brush across your cheeks. The tapping motion applies and blends the product at the same time, eliminating the need to go back and blend afterwards. Do you need more? Just do it again. You’ll be surprise how little blush you really need.

Did you apply a blush that was too dark or bright? To ‘erase’, or tone down the color, take a powder brush with loose powder and apply over, or a dry makeup sponge with loose powder to erase even more off. Want to get rid of it entirely? Apply your moisturizer with a dry makeup sponge over it and the moisturizer will pick up and erase the color completely. You may have to reapply a little foundation, but this works best when the blush is too dark or bright.

Cream ( shown: Stila Convertible Color )

Cream offers the most natural looking ‘blush’ that you can find, but it usually fades after 3-4 hours, since the oils in the cream blush usually blend into the oils of your foundation and/or moisturizer.

Application Tool(s): Fingers

Techniques:

Cream blush
Cream blush blends best into moisturized skin and applied with your fingertips. It’s always better to apply a little at first, and then add more on if needed. Did you apply too much? Take your sponge and ‘erase’ any excess. For longer staying power, apply a touch of powder blush on top of your cream blush.

Gel blush
Gel blush has the greatest staying power of all blushes because of it’s ‘staining’ qualities. The bad part is that it also stains your fingers as well when you’re applying it. Use sponges for the easiest results, but be aware that the sponge will soak up some of the product.

Application Tool(s): Fingers, sponges

Techniques:

For a soft rosy glow, apply your gel blush underneath your foundation. For a stronger look, on top of your foundation, but before you’ve applied your powder. Did you get a color that’s too strong? Mix it with a little bit of moisturizer and then apply to cut down the intensity.

Stain ( shown: Lorac Sheer Wash )

The newest blush on the market are your liquid ‘stains’, such as the ever-popular “BeneTint” by Benefit Cosmetics. Packaged in a glass bottle with a ‘nail polish’ applicator brush, this product wins raves in the durability department, but can be tricky in the application itself.

Application Tool(s): Fingers, sponges

Techniques

Since this product stains the quickest, apply on one cheek at a time and spot blend. Just smile, and apply 1-2 dots of your liquid color, then blend with fingertips or a sponge. If the stain dries too quickly for you, apply a dot of moisturizer as you apply and you’ll have more time to blend before the product stains.

For foundations that are too greasy/oily/shiny:

Mix 1 tsp of loose powder into your bottle of foundation. The powder will soak up oil, and give you a slightly thicker foundation, but also, less oily as well.

For foundations that are too drying:

• Mix in a drop of moisturizer or sunscreen per application.

To give more coverage to a too sheer foundation:

Mix your base into your concealer for a thicker consistency. Add a little bit of loose powder into the mixture and you’re set.

For a too thick foundation:

Dilute down with toner, witch hazel, or Evian water. Try to stay away from tap water, as the minerals in tap water can make your foundation change colors, or go ashy, depending on the quality or lack of in your tap water. Put your liquid in a spritz bottle and spray over face, then apply foundation on top where needed. Or spritz the back of your hand, apply your foundation as well, and mix together to get the right consistency. Then apply onto your face.

APPLICATION:

For the sheerest applications, applying foundation with your hands will make foundation sink into your skin, and give a more natural look. The heat of your hands also makes the foundation more pliable, enabling to work into skin easier, and blend better.

As for using a makeup sponge, try to stay away from applying foundation with it. Sponges are great culprits for soaking up foundation, and you’ll find yourself going through your base alot quicker than you thought. Think of your sponges as erasers, or blending tools only.

A new tool on the market for foundation application, is one I highly recommend. A foundation brush. Made with stiff taklon bristles or the softest of sable or squirrel hairs, this brush is round, small and short in size. Think of it as a flat contour brush. Just as a lipstick brush applies lipstick just where you need and with the right amount, so does this foundation brush. You get the exact amount you need, as well as a perfect blending tool on top of it. Also, coverage becomes perfected, because you are applying, or ‘painting’ the base onto the surface of the skin, as opposed to working it in. You’ll find you can get better coverage from your sheer foundations, just by changing the tool you use to apply it with.

Try the “Foundation Brush” from The Body Shop, either at their stores, or through their catalog. Think of 1/16th of the size of a loose powder brush. Or, a small blush brush will work also.

When applying foundation, think of your color as watercolor, your face as the canvas, and the brush or your fingers as the paint brush. No matter where you apply the color, that’s pretty much where the concentration of color is going to go, and then you can blend out from there. Try moving watercolor on your paper from one side to the other, and you’ll have a hard time. It’ll blend out, but it won’t move. So is the same theory when applying your colors in makeup, in base, eye shadow, blush etc. Where ever you hit first with your ‘brush’, that’s where your ‘focus’, or the concentration of color is going to go.

For foundation application, the ‘focus’ of the application should be down the center of the face, which is where most of your discolorations lie anyway. Apply a line of foundation down the center of your face, going across the forehead, down the nose, across the cheeks and across the chin. Then with your brush, or fingers, blend in outwards and downwards strokes.

• When blending, try this great visual to cut down on time.
• Divide your face into 3 sections. Top / Middle / Bottom.

• TOP: From hairline to top of eyebrows
• MIDDLE: From eyelids to top of lip
• BOTTOM: From lip to jaw line

As you apply and blend, apply with these strokes for foundation to go on smoothly.

For the TOP section:

• apply horizontally across the forehead, and blend from side to side, blending back towards the hairline.

For the MIDDLE section:

• apply horizontally across the cheeks and top of nose, then blend in downward strokes. This keeps the fine hairs on your cheeks down, and lying flat, so you don’t get any streaking of color later on.

For the BOTTOM section:

• apply horizontally across the chin, and then blend downwards.

As you’re blending, focus on working from top to bottom, completely blending one section before moving onto the next. By visualizing sections, and completing one before you get to the next, you’ll find that when you reach your jaw line, you will be finished. No more jumping around from one side to the other…you’ll see that this makes your foundation time go much quicker.

BLENDING TRICKS:

A great thing that your foundation brush can do is customize your foundation with each application. Here are some great tricks we do in photography that you can us to create a whole new look.

Customize:

1. For greater coverage: mix concealer into your foundation, pick up and mix on back of your hand, and apply.
2. For sheerer coverage: spray your brush with toner, or Evian water to slightly dampen, then pick up your foundation.
3. To add warm tones to a too pink base: Mix foundation into a dash of yellow toned loose powder.
4. To glamorize foundation for night: Mix foundation into a shimmery body powder, or an irridescent eye shadow..you’ll get a wonderful glow for evening.
5. For sun protection: Mix sunscreen into your base, and apply with your brush.

OTHER COOL TRICKS:

1. Mix moisturizer for a dewy skin look.
2. Mix a soft brown eye shadow, foundation toner, or bronzer into your base to deepen a summer tan.
3. Mix a drop of Vitamin E oil into your base for a shiny look.
4. Mix Visine into your base to calm down redness.

SETTING BASE:

To set your foundation, set with loose powder in the morning. This helps keep your foundation on longer, than applying pressed powder. Pressed powder is really just for touch ups during the day. When applying pressed powder with your sponge, you are applying about 5-8 layers of powder. If you were to apply this to set your makeup in the morning, you will probably find yourself shiny about 2-3 hours later. Why? This many layers of powder can make your skin ‘sweat’ in trying to remove the ‘feel’ of it on your skin. You really don’t need this much powder to set. Loose powder works great, because you apply just the right amount, where needed.

For a soft application, take a large fluffy loose powder brush, pick up 2-3 dabs on the edge of your brush, and shake off any excess. Then apply in downward strokes from top of forehead, to bottom of jaw.

For a more matte appearance, take your makeup sponge, or powder puff, and press lightly through the t-zone to set makeup.

You can create your own eye shadow base and lip base, by taking your loose powder, and then damping a large flat eye shadow brush. Pick up your loose powder, and apply it to your eyelids and lips. Brush off the excess. Let dry. By applying loose powder on wet, you end up applying a shield that keeps color on longer, and prevents from creasing and fading.

For oily skin, a great photography trick is to apply loose powder with a powder puff,set, and then spritz toner or water on top. Let dry. This also works in the same manner for the whole face.

LOOSE POWDER FINDS:

CONCEAL:The next step is to conceal. You can apply concealer before your foundation, but I’ve found that what happens is that you end up concealing, or at least wanting to conceal your whole face. By applying foundation first, you end up concealing about 75% of what you don’t like anyway. The next step is to conceal with a concealer that has a consistency of thick cream. With this, you can either thin with toner, or thicken with powder. That way, you get 3 concealers out of one. If a concealer is too sheer, it doesn’t do the job anyway, and if it’s too thick, you’ll have a harder time thinning it down.

Look for concealers that are yellow in tone, or orange. You’ll find it does a better job in calming down those discolorations, and reinforcing the color theory.

For a perfect concealer color every time, mix a bit of your foundation into your concealer before you apply. That way, whether it’s summer or winter, you’ll get the perfect match. Did you customize your foundation? Do the same with your concealer and foundation mix together. You also save on wasting product as well.

The best way to apply concealer is with a taklon brush.

These stiff nylon hairs grab concealer, but doesn’t soak it up, great for applying creams. Mix with foundation to get your perfect color, and apply where needed, everywhere, except underneath the eyes. More about this tip later. But don’t worry, you’ll thank me for it later.

You may be asking, why am I applying concealer AFTER my powder? Great question. By applying after powder, you’ll find that the powder on the skin will soak up any excess oils in the concealer, and help to keep in on longer, with less creasing and better staying power. Also, you’ll find that you’ll need less concealer if you did the color theory shadowing first as well. Remember, concealers are great for evening out skin tones, but opposite colors are what tones down the actual color. Apply with your brush exactly where needed, and then with your fingertip, dot and press the edges into the skin. This is where the heat of your hand comes in handy blending.

Finding The Best Quality Makeup Brush

When looking for a makeup brush, make sure it passes this criteria before spending your money.

First of all, make sure the brush is not made out of synthetic or man made hair. You can tell by the super glossy surface of the hairs, and the slight coarseness of the feel of the bristles. Synthetic hairs also have the tendency to get stiffer with use, not softer…so save your face by getting only the softest bristles in sable,goat, pony or squirrel, or a combination of these. It’s more money to start off with, but you’ll be rewarded with a makeup brush that will last your whole lifetime.

What is a good Makeup Brush?

The best on the market are brushes that are made up of a variety of hairs….not just one. These feel the softest and last the longest. Want the softest brushes around? Squirrel hair is the softest you’ll find. Want durability in a brush? Try Sable hair that will last a lifetime. Need a brush to hold creams and concealers without soaking up the product? Try Taklon bristles, a cream colored hair that is strong enough to move the product around without absorbing it.

The Cut of a Brush

• Brushes come in three different types of cuts.
• Straight, Chisel and Tapered.

Straight Cuts are very similar to a straight hair cut, or a bob. All the hairs line up evenly in a straight line. These brushes are the best for any brush that you need to make a straight line with, i.e. eye lining, eyebrows, eyeshadow, etc. Look for your Eyebrow and Angle brushes here.

Chisel Cuts are those that are slightly layered into the ends of the brush. This brush has a rounded look and effect. These brushes are excellent for blending and for creating a softer touch when applying a dark color. Stock up in these for blush, contouring, powder and all eyeshadow brushes.

The last cut is Tapered. Where the ends of the brush are rounded out in a tapered fashion, yet the brush itself is flat. A tapered lip brush is a perfect example of this, and also the best lip brush you can find. Since the lip line is not exactly straight, this brush draws a great curved line. Check out this cut also in concealer brushes or Taklon brushes.

The 3 Tests all makeup brushes should pass:

• Before spending your hard earned money on a makeup brush, make sure it passes these three tests first.
• I call it the “Feel” , “Flip” and “Pull” Test.

Test 1. “Feel” How does the bristles feel across the inside of your wrist? This is exactly how it’ll feel on your face. Stiff and prickly? Don’t bother. Soft and light? Buy it.

Test 2. “Flip” Flip the bristles back in forth across your hand. Any stray hairs flying anywhere? Then don’t buy this brush. It means that the glue used to hold the hairs in is not very good, and after a few shampoos, this brush will fall apart.

Test 3. “Pull” Next, lightly pull the bristles away from the handle. Is there any give in the brush? If so, it’s loosely glued in as well, and it will fall apart very quickly.

The largest softest fluffiest brush you can find. Go all out and get the Squirrel hair Powder Brush. Your face will thank me for it.

2. Blush Brush

The most important thing is that it must be the right size. Smile, and place the brush against the apple of your cheek. If it perfectly matches, you’ve got the right one. Too big? You’ll end up getting blush everywhere you don’t want it.too Too small? You’ll end up streaking your blush and not getting enough on. And you thought it was just the product……

3. Lip Brush

A sable (for durability) tapered lip brush. In a size large enough to fill in your lips with lipstick in several strokes.

4. Small Angle Brush

Get a flat straight cut angle brush. Perfect for filling in eyebrows with eyeshadow, and applying eyeshadow on wet for a eyeliner look.

5. Small Flat Eyeshadow Brush

Perfect to fit the bone of the eye, (the area just underneath the eyebrows to the crease.) Use only to apply light and shimmering colors.

6. Medium Chisel Eyeshadow Brush

Since it is real hair that you’re using, wash your brushes at least once a week with a mild conditioning shampoo. This keeps the bristles soft. For in between cleansing, have handy a spray on brush cleaner. These can be found in most beauty and theatrical supply stores. Joe Blasco and Cinema Secrets both make excellent ones. The best part is, that it completely sanitizes the brush, as well as completely pulling out all the color and product out of the hairs. Just spray on the brush and wipe of on a Kleenex.

So now you have a working knowledge of your bone structure, an understanding of color, and tools. So what’s next? Application.

The Opposite Color Theory works by applying the opposite color that is directly across from the other on the color wheel.

The opposite colors are:

GREEN………….RED

BLUE…….. ORANGE

PURPLE…..YELLOW

When putting two Opposite Colors on TOP of each other, you can subdue, soften, even hide a color.

When applying an Opposite Color NEXT to each other, you enhance, bring out, and brighten a color.

Follow this guideline to determine which colors you would use where on your skin.

For example, by using the opposite color GREEN over a RED tone, you’ll notice that the color red underneath will calm down, and in most cases almost disappear. And here’s an update. To hide redness better, use YELLOW. Yellow is a much easier color to work with on the skin, easier to apply and blend in. In foundation shades, red and yellow are at the opposite ends of the spectrum. Most foundations become a shade darker by adding more red to it. In theory, this doesn’t work because when skin gets darker, it becomes more brown….as in a suntan. The red is a sunburn, not really the color you want to match to. To darken any foundation color, do so by adding a few drops of soft brown. So lets say, if your skin has a red tone to it, apply the opposite color of green (or better yet, yellow), to calm it down. Do you see what we’re getting at? For best results? Use a soft pastel colored eyeshadow to tone down the skin, or a liquid Skin Corrector made just for this purpose. Use either one always underneath foundation. Otherwise you’d have the color on your skin!

You can also use the same method of the Opposite Color technique to bring out and enhance the colors in your skin and facial features. For example, to bring out BLUE eyes, use the opposite color ORANGE or any orange based eye shadow to bring out blue eyes. Try this experiment if you have blue eyes. Use blue eyeshadow on one eye, and an orange toned shadow on the other. Which eye looks bluer? The orange-tint eye shadow will look bluer because of the opposite color theory, and with startling results. Once you’ve seen this transformation, you will never go back to wearing blue eyeshadow again.

For the color GREEN, and for green eyes, the opposite color is RED, but for the better results, try an eyeshadow in the red color family, like purple, pink, mauve. Stay away from straight red shadow, as it can bring out the blood vessels in your eye and make them only look tired and bloodshot. Other colors taken from red are pink, violet, purple, rust, burgundy….. All these colors have a touch of red in them so you can still use these colors. Look for any color with a red tone to it, for example, a brown shadow with a RED undertone to it. Use one of those colors on one green eye, and green shadow on the other. You’ll get the same striking effect.

Remember, you are not limited to using only the exact opposite color. Understand that the results may not be as startling as the pure color, but you will still notice the difference in using a tint of the opposite color, or a color in the same color family. Try practicing with this color principle and you will discover a vast amount of different colors and looks that you can use to enhance your features. RULE OF THUMB:

• Use the opposite color underneath your foundation if it is a color that you want to hide.
• Use the opposite color over your foundation next to the color that you want to enhance.

LINE 1. To determine where the eyebrow should begin, draw a straight line from the edge of the nose, through the tear duct, straight up. This line shows where your eyebrow should start. If your eyes are close-set, start this line a little further out, to give the illusion of more space between the eyes.

LINE 2. This line starts from the edge of the nose, to the outer edge of the eye, straight up. Your eyebrow should end on that line. An eyebrow that goes beyond this line tends to make you look sleepy, tired, pulling the eye downwards.

LINE 3. Start a straight line at the outside edge of the pupil, straight up through the eye. This is where the highest arch of the eyebrow should be.

LINE 4. Draw this line horizontally through the eyebrow , in a horizontal line, from where the eyebrow starts to where the eyebrow ends along the lower line, meeting where the eyebrow begins and ends. The line should be a straight one. If you find this line slanting at an angle, then you know that either the beginning or the end of the eyebrow is not done correctly. Check these 2 lines again.

The majority of soaking treatments come in the form of hydrotherapy, the therapeutic use of water. Aromatherapy can heighten the psychological effects of hydrotherapy, providing additional soothing effects for the client.

3. Cuticle oil
4. Water
5. Pine or citrus carbonated soak
6. Cream cuticle remover
7. Granular scrub
8. Aloe vera gel
9. Buffing cream
10. Base coat
11. Polish
12. Topcoat
13. Quick dry

Equipment needed:

1. Cuticle nippers
2. Fingernail file
3. Small bowl
4. Oil stick
5. Nylon sloughing gloves
6. Three towels
7. Disposable plastic bags
8. Three-way buffer
9. Chamois buffer
10. Nail dryer

   
Step 1: Once the client is comfortably seated, apply a cooling instant disinfectant gel to sanitize the hands.

Step 2: Remove polish using an enamel remover.

Step 3: Trim and shape the nails with nippers and file.

Step 4: Apply cuticle oil with an oil stick.

Step 5: Soak the client’s hands for 2 minutes in a bowl prepared with steaming water and 1-oz. of a pine- or citrus-scented carbonated soak.

Step 6: Push cuticles using cream cuticle remover and use cuticle nippers to remove any excess, if desired, and where state law allows.

Step 7: Apply cuticle oil a second time.

Step 8: Use hands to apply ½-oz. of a granular scrub made of sea salt, ground sugar or walnut shells to the first hand and lower arm.

Step 9: Put on nylon sloughing gloves and vigorously exfoliate the hand and lower arm, using circular motions and paying special attention to rough areas such as elbows.

Step 10: Wrap the hand and arm snugly with a hot, scented towel and then put in a disposable plastic bag and set aside.

Step 11: Repeat Steps 8–10 on the second hand and arm. Let hands rest for 5 minutes.

Step 12: Remove granular scrub with the hot towel used to wrap the hand and arm, one hand at a time. Pat the hand and arm dry and rest on the table.

Step 13: Apply ½-oz. of an aloe vera gel to one hand and lower arm and perform massage movements.

Step 14: Set the first hand aside and repeat massage on the second hand and arm.

Step 15: Buff the nails with a three-way buffer. Finalize the process with the application of buffing cream and buff with a chamois buffer to a highly buffed finish.

Step 16: Apply base coat to the nails and follow with two coats of polish of the client’s choice. Finish with a topcoat.

Step 17: Place the hands under a dryer until dry or apply quick dry.

Step 18: Sanitize and sterilize all implements and instruments for another treatment.

It is important to remember that treatments are not a stand-alone business for the spa. Good treatments are the root of the spa business, but every root needs nourishment and support. In essence all treatment lines and product lines should be a partner in stimulating sales in the spa environment.
