Blush is an important component to any woman’s makeup kit. Used correctly, it transforms your look — changing a pallid, pale complexion into a warm and glowing one. Blush most commonly comes in powder form, which you should apply with a large, quality blush brush. You can also purchase blush as crèmes, gels and stains, which you can smooth on with clean fingers or a makeup sponge. Always consider your face shape when working with blush and apply it in a way that accentuates your highlights. Almost everyone falls into one of several face shape categories: oval, round, square, heart-shaped or rectangle.
Choose the Blush Color. The right color of blush for your skin is the color that matches the skin tone after it is flushed with exercise or exposure to cold wind. If you are unaware of both colors, purchase blush that is similar to the color of your lips.A round face. Round face is almost as wide as it it’s long, with the greatest width at the cheek. To slenderize, apply your blush in a sideways V on your cheekbones and blend up. To add an illusion of length apply a bit of blush to your chin and blend well.
A square face. Square face has a squared forehead about the same width as the cheekbones and jaw line. The squared jaw is the prominent feature. Beginning at the center of the eyes apply your blush on the cheekbones. Blend toward your temples and apply a dab to your forehead and chin to soften the square angle of the face.
A rectangular face. Rectangular face is an elongated square shape. The forehead is about the same width as the cheekbones and jaw line. Apply blush on cheekbones below the outer corners of the eyes and blend well. Be sure the blush never extends lower than the tip of the nose.
