Contact lenses are used widely all over the globe but most of the users don’t take proper care of their lenses. Actually they might not be aware of the fact that it is very important to take proper care of the lenses. This care is not only essential for lenses but also for the eyes. Infected lenses can seriously damage the eyes.
Always wash your hands with warm water and soap before handling contact lenses or before touching your eyes. Any residue from lotions, soaps, or chemicals may stick to the contact lens, causing pain, irritation, or blurred vision when they are in the eyes. Dry hands with a clean towel.
Wear contact lenses as prescribed. Your eye doctor will recommend a wearing schedule specific to the type of contact lens you have selected. Only wear contact lenses for the time recommended.
Rinse the lens case after each use and leave it open to dry, replacing the solution thereafter. Replace the case on a monthly basis. A dirty case can be a major source of infection. Clean the storage case with a clean toothbrush and contact lens solution on a weekly basis.
Don’t use plain water directly on your contact lenses. Microorganisms reside in even distilled water and can easily lead to infection or sight damage.
Clean your contact lens by placing them in the palm of your hand and then pouring the solution on top. Gently rub the lens with your index finger and then rinse with the solution once again.
Do not sleep with your contact lenses on, unless your doctor has advised you to do so. If you accidentally fall asleep with your contact lenses on, be sure to put eye drops in your eyes and wait for a few minutes, before trying to remove your contact lenses.
