Side Effects of Turmeric on Skin and Body

It is said that too much of a good thing might be bad; it is so with increased usage of turmeric. Turmeric enjoys a common belief that it is safe and beneficial even in high doses, early Indian and Arabian medicine praise turmeric and its medicinal properties too, but recent tests prove that turmeric side effects are many. Just because using turmeric provide supposedly good results for one kind of condition do not mean it will not affect at all.  Turmeric side effects include uterine stimulation, worsen condition for people with gallstones, bile duct obstruction and stomach ulcers, problems for people with heart and liver conditions are only to name a few.

You should avoid turmeric if you have gallstones or bile obstructions. If you are currently taking Aspirin, consult with your doctor before taking Turmeric, since it is an anti-platelet agent (prevent clot formation). People under going surgery should also avoid turmeric.

Side Effects of Turmeric:
1. High prolonged doses can cause gastric upset.
2. People, who are suffered from stomach ulcers, can suffer from heartburn with high dose of turmeric.
3. If turmeric is consumed in high quantity; it can cause nausea and diarrhea.
Turmeric can be a uterine stimulant so pregnant women should use it carefully.
4. It can slow blood clotting so might cause extra bleeding in people who underwent surgery, so take it after consulting a physician.

Skin Allergies:
Turmeric has been used by many people for cosmetic purposes. The antibacterial quality of turmeric helps cure skin problems like acne, blemishes, scars, cuts and wounds. However, there are some people who are allergic to turmeric if applied externally. For these people, external application of turmeric causes skin problems or aggravates the already existing problem.
