Skin problems happen to everyone. They’re unavoidable.
They erupt on nearly everyone’s face at some time, and seriously affect more than half of all adolescents for some years of their lives.
But breakthroughs in the control of skin blemishes are making treatment more and more effective. One factor is the major importance of diet.
You should, however, check with your family doctor before you begin any set diet.
“A diet for blemish-prone skin must be consistently high in protein and fresh, raw fruit and vegetables,” advises the Australian Women‘s Weekly Medi-talk doctor.
There are three rules to observe in the diet he has devised for us.
1. Avoid eating chocolate and foods or drinks made with cocoa. There could be a link between chocolate and skin conditions such as pimples.
2. Avoid fried and fatty foods in general. You don’t have to be fanatical about this, as some favorites like chips are allowed in the diet.
3. Avoid starchy foods. No cakes, biscuits, sweets, bread or jams.
Keep to those rules and you’ won’t feel you’re missing a thing. Remember to eat the foods that are good for you. Protein is a major pimple-fighter. Eat it in fish, poultry and egg-white.
In following this diet, if you feel you simply must eat something, have a favorite fruit drink and mix into it a tablespoon of Davis gelatin. Gelatin is pure protein and acts as a filler in the stomach. Fingernails get a bonus from this extra too. Our diet has been worked out to give you a really clear skin and a good figure too. But you don’t miss out on delights like hamburgers, avocados, roast lamb, or baked apples with custard.
